Obituary of Cleteur Counard

Burlington Twp.: Cleteur J. "Clete" Counard, age 67 of Burlington Twp. died peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Clete, as many called him, was born September 10, 1951 in Green Bay Wisconsin and was the eldest of five children of the late Cletus J. and Helen Maurer Counard. He resided in Jacksonville, NJ before moving to Burlington Township in 1981. Cleteur was a retired graphic artist for BWAY, Inc. in Trenton with 35 years of dedicated of service. In 1975 he became a volunteer fireman with the Jacksonville Fire House and worked their oyster dinners. He later joined the BTWP Fire Station 303 serving as past president and volunteered his time and service to support the building of the new addition to Station 303. Clete played a paramount role in the success of the roast beef dinners at Station 303 by preparing the beef for the dinners usually following a full shift at his job. Mr. Counard will be fondly remembered as a caring and compassionate individual who would assist anyone in need. He and his wife Ginni collected gifts for the children at the Voorhees Pediatric facility for more than 20 years to make sure the residents had a Christmas to remember. He displayed his caring personality in his own neighborhood by establishing the PNW neighborhood watch to include 109 families and ran the JFK Class of 1971 reunions for over 25 years to provide 710 participants an affordable time to remember. Additionally, he coached wrestling for BTWP for more than 20 years for Grapevine Wrestling serving as an officer in the league and providing wrestling to include the handicapped. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharlann Counard Daley and is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginni" Girardot Counard, their four children, Dawn Counard, Cleteur J. Counard Jr., David Counard, and Andrew Counard, his siblings, Kirk Douglas Counard, Charlene Counard-Casey and Kete Counard, his grandchildren, Ryan Arbani and Jodi & Lillian Counard and many nieces & nephews. The funeral will be Saturday 9:30 AM at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 11:00 AM at Holy Assumption Church, Roebling. Friends may call Friday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. A fireman's ritual will be held 7:15 PM and a catholic wake service will be conducted during the calling hours. Interment will be in Holy Assumption Cemetery, Roebling. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112.
