Obituary of Alexander Varava Jr.

Mansfield Township, Alexander Varava Jr., age 80 of Mansfield Township, passed away Sunday at home in the presence of his sons and wife. Mr. Varava was born in Roebling and was the son of the late Alexander Sr. & Eva Zichuk. He resided in Homestead at Mansfield the past 12 years and was formerly of Florence and Roebling. Alex was a retired Chief Lineman, employed by Public Service Electric & Gas, Transmission & Distribution, Trenton, John A. Roebling & Sons, C.F. & I. Corp., Roebling and was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Burlington Country Club where he enjoyed golfing during his retirement with his family and friends while teaching the game to his grandsons. In 1973 Alex completed building his own home at 1098 Grove Street in Florence. He was a longtime basketball and little league baseball coach with the Florence Township Recreation Department. He also enjoyed restoring classic Ford Mustangs, woodworking, carving decoys and his specialty was building bird houses. Mr. Varava was predeceased by his wife Maryanne Varava, his mother Eva Zichuk and his grandmother Anna Rodiuk. He is survived by his wife Madeline K. Varava, son & daughter-in-law Matthew & Kim Varava, son Adam 'Al' Varava, grandsons, Lucas & Nicholas Varava, step daughter & spouse, Madeline & John Jones, step son & spouse, Leo & Kristina Storniolo and step grandchildren, Matthew & Ava Jones. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the church for the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday 11:00 am at Holy Assumption Church, Roebling with Rev. Cesar Anson officiating. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling. There will be no visiting at the funeral home Saturday morning.
