Obituary of Louis Guadagnino

Wilmington, Delaware: Louis "Lou" Guadagnino, age 87 of Wilmington, DE died Sunday, July 29, 2018. Lou was born in Easton, PA and was the son of the late Pasquale and Violet Martino Guadagnino. He resided in Florence Township for over 30 years before moving to Wilmington. Lou was a devoted teacher and coach for the Florence Township School District for 31 years. He was truly one of the great characters in South Jersey basketball history with a long and distinguished career. His most notable achievements came as the boys' basketball coach at Florence High School where he coached from 1965 to 1978. During that span Florence had one of the top programs in the area. His teams were noted for their deliberate style of play and torrid defense. Lou demanded the utmost respect and discipline from his players and molded everyone into a team with a no nonsense approach. He also coached boys' basketball at Bristol, PA, Rancocas Valley, South River and Holy Cross. In 1985 he became an assistant coach at Princeton University under coach Pete Carril. He was also a successful softball coach at Florence, leading the team into the school's first State Championship. He coached the program for 13 years. Lou was inducted into the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and was selected coach of the year six times. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Guadagnino, brothers- in- law, Leo Sokol, Prosper Paoletti and Richard Semonche. Lou is survived by his daughter, Susan (Scott) Farrell, son, Louis G. Guadagnino Jr., his loving companion of 25 years, Maple Yeager, sisters, Lucia Sokol, Frances Paoletti and Rosemarie Semonche, sister-in-law, Carmen Guadagnino, several nieces, nephews & cousins and his extended Yeager family and children, Rory (Michelle) Yeager, Nicki Miller, and Ricky (Kate) Yeager.
