Obituary of Rebecca "Betty" Leffel Knox

Florence Township: Rebecca “Betty” Leffel Knox, age 80 of Florence Township, New Jersey completed her journey on August 26, 2023 in the company of her loving family. Mrs. Knox was born in Newport News, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Thomas Hedrick Leffel and Violet Leona Swartz Leffel. She resided in Roanoke, Virginia before calling Florence Township her home in 1980. Betty retired after providing nurturing and loving care services for children for many years. Rebecca was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hainesport. She enjoyed preparing her “Southern Cooking”, for family and friends and was known near and far for her “Banana Pudding”. She enjoyed bowling, reading and always finding time in her day to appreciate a love story on the Hallmark Channel. Betty truly loved life, family and friends. However, her greatest joy was fulfilling the role of “Memaw” to her grandchildren. Perhaps her greatest gift was her infectious smile! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Randolph and Thomas Leffel and is survived by her devoted daughters, Robin E. Hay and the love of her life, Adam Varava, Rebecca E. Henderson and Kimberly D. Shafer who was as close as a daughter could be. Her beloved grandchildren, Casey L. Mason, Haley M. Mason, Logan H. Hay and Sydney M. Hay, brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Jane Leffel, Kenneth and Anne Leffel and James Leffel, sisters-in-law, Jean Leffel and Barrie Ann Knox, many nieces and nephews as well as her forever friend, Carole Carey. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling, New Jersey. Final disposition will be held privately.
