C. Woodrow "Woody" Smith

Florence Twp.: C. Woodrow "Woody" Smith, age 76 of Florence died peacefully on Monday surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Smith was born in Riverside and was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Ida Mae Green Smith. He resided in Florence Twp. lifelong and was employed by the State of NJ Department of Transportation for 25 years and retired from the Burlington Co. Highway Department as supervisor of the bridge division with 10 years of dedicated service. Woody will be forever remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, pop pop and friend who never spoke an improper word about anyone. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, was an avid golfer and collector of Lionel trains. His family was the center of his life and he was very proud of them. Woody's sense of humor would enliven the room just by his presence. Mr. Smith joined the Florence Township Fire Company in 1959 and has risen through the ranks to serve his community as Florence Township Fire Chief, Fire Marshall and Fire Commissioner amongst numerous other positions in which he displayed his allegiance to his community. Mr. Smith was a Life member of the Florence Twp. Fire Company #1, Burlington Co. Fire Marshall's Association, Burlington County Chief's Association, treasurer of the Eveready Sportsman Club, Florence Twp. Yacht Club and former member of the Florence Twp. Police Reserves, NJ State Marine Police, Florence Twp. Zoning Board and Florence Twp. Planning Board. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Frances Layman and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dianne Stellwag Smith, son & daughter-in-law, Jeffrey & Gina Smith, daughter & son-in-law, Lorraine & Rick McCormick, grandchildren, Alexis, Jeffrey Jr., Ryan, Connor & Alana, extended McCormick grandchildren, Rick Jr. & Shannon, extended McCormick great granddaughter, Ellie, sister-in-law, Jean Furter, sister- In-law & brother-in-law, Maryann & Scott Pondish & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces & great nephews. Funeral services will be Monday 11:00 AM at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Avenue, Roebling with Deacon William Briggs officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Fireman's Ritual will be 6:00 PM Sunday. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Florence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Florence Township Volunteer Fire Company # 1, 401 Firehouse Lane, Florence, NJ 08518.
